Toner at its best
By: Monica Foth
If the quality of your printed documents has become less than perfect, it could be that you need more toner. Once you have replaced or refilled the toner cartridge you will once again produce good quality, clear text.
What exactly is toner, you may ask, and how does it work? Cartridges with toner in them have a specialized ink that is different from your regular ink cartridges. Toner is a dry, powdery substance that is electrically charged so that it adheres to a drum, plate or a piece of paper during the printing process. The toner in cartridges is transferred to the paper through a combination of heat and pressure in a laser printer. These types of printers utilize a laser beam to produce an image onto a drum that is then rolled through a reservoir of toner. Laser printers produce a high quality text in addition to high definition graphics in a range of colors.
The toner cartridges can be either replaced or refilled with toner once they are empty. You can usually print a thousand pages with the use of a single cartridge.
